5 lessons learned from planning for the unpredictable

If prepared in advance, companies will be able to survive unpredictable events such as the Great Financial and Economic Crisis. Or the outbreak of disease like Covid  19,  but many companies still look at the present. The time to deal with current events rather than leading analytic modeling scenarios  (what-if analysis)  , and planning emergency  (contingency planning)  to deploy because of two things will allow them to predict and. respond positively to changing situations

Here are five lessons to prepare for and cope with crisis can not be avoided.

Lesson  #1

Ask the right questions because it will help discover how to react when something goes wrong. Those questions should take into account the underlying strategies and assumptions that support the business model and affect  business continuity.  You’ll need to be more intuitive in the minds and spirits of the people in business than applying theory  if you know how. The supply chain is the weak point of the organization.  You should ask the question, if the supply chain has a problem,  what should you do ? which will become starting point in Plan the next step .

Lesson  #2

Response  ( Respond)  but no reaction  (React)  each crisis had a different away. If you haven’t experienced this kind of situation before. It’s easy to give up, says  Peter Drucker  , a well-known business consultant and influential thinker. “The greatest danger in times of chaos is not chaos. rather, it is a choice to follow the same conceptual framework . ” Reactions and responses are different, and  Oliver Wight  clearly distinguishes these two things :

  • Reacting ( Reacting ) is an action without thinking or planning beforehand. Most business decisions in a normal environment go like this. Because we have experienced before. and know how to respond to it in order to be effective But this method may not work in times of change and uncertainty.
  • Response ( Responding ) is an action that has been thought or planned before.  It is by thinking and planning ahead that makes all the difference.

Responding is more difficult because it is more objective, analytical thinking and requires more energy. It’s not like making quick decisions, which is something most people tend to automatically do. If they don’t have the tools to help them decide. People always have a solution to a problem. But it may not always be the most effective or appropriate answer.

Lesson  #3

Emotions are important –  it ’s human nature that when we are under stress or pressure. We will feel anxious, fearful, and insecure. These feelings will completely overshadow our creativity. This psychological effect can last for weeks to months. After the unexpected happened We must think how we can turn a crisis into an opportunity ?

Leaders need to link each team together  and shift from focusing on problems to focusing on solutions. looking for alternatives in every way possible Optimistic and always keep  my thoughts positive, only to be driven to achieve good results. You can change your mind by looking at possibilities and opportunities. in any situation It’s better than worrying about the problem alone.

Don’t think about what you can’t do. But think about what you can do.

Lesson  #4

Process is work,  and work is a shield. integrated planning process Must have at all times In times of crisis  and have to push hard for people to look forward. and always predict the future Even the thought that there is only one person taking care of it should be enough. There should be someone else to help support and help. Make the strategic planning process integrated Your organization becomes the center of change management on a daily basis, managing with facts. Powered and planning for a situation analysis  ( ‘what-if’ scenarios)  and con ’s transition plan  (re-planning)  quickly.

Lesson  #5

Simulation  (simulation)  and model  ( Modeling )  to help predict the future better than the one we need to design simulations  to see the financial impact quickly. Businesses with integrated data will be able to plan fluently and comprehensively. But the ability to quickly simulate design is a must-have for businesses in times of crisis. It all traces back to the first lesson where we need to ask the right questions. to be used in the design of the situation itself

Finally, I would like to leave you with that If you only use your energy to heal the fever You will never be able to develop a vaccine. While we are in the midst of a crisis like this We need to start asking questions like What if  ( what-if)  and design future business scenarios? This will give you a better preparedness to deal with the next situation.
